Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba made an unannounced visit to Tshilidzini Hospital after several complaints from the public. She was accompanied by MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Tshitereke Matibe, and Thulamela Municipality Mayor, Cllr Vho Sara Rambuda.
During the visit, the Premier spoke with patients and their escorts. She explained that the hospital provides casualty services only on weekends and public holidays. Outpatient services remain closed during these times.
Premier Ramathuba said the department is improving systems to reduce long queues and waiting times, especially during the festive season. She stressed that weekends and public holidays are reserved for emergency cases. Non-emergency cases are handled during normal working hours.
Ramathuba said Tshilidzini Hospital is a regional hospital that mainly handles referral cases requiring specialised care. She added that clinics and district hospitals, classified as level-one facilities, should manage about 90% of cases currently seen at the hospital.
The Premier emphasized that public understanding of the healthcare system is critical. It ensures efficient service delivery and reduces pressure on regional hospitals.
