
Zimbabwean football is in mourning following the death of former midfielder Frankson “Warrior” Bushiri, who died on 20 January 2025. His passing has sent shockwaves across the local football fraternity and beyond.
Bushiri died in a road accident near Gweru while travelling from Kwekwe. Police confirmed that the vehicle he was driving veered off the road and collided with a tree. He dead at the scene. No other vehicles involved in the crash.
The incident happened in the early hours of the morning. Emergency services responded, but nothing could be done to save him. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
He earned the nickname “Warrior” because of his fearless approach in midfield. He known for strong tackles, high work rate, and discipline. Coaches often relied on him during difficult matches.
Bushiri began his football journey in Zvishavane. He developed through the youth system at Mimosa FC, which later became FC Platinum. His rise came through hard work rather than hype.
Former teammates described him as humble and focused. Many said he was a leader both on and off the field. Younger players often looked up to him for guidance.
Tributes poured in from clubs, fans, and football officials
across the country. Several teams observed moments of silence in his honour. Messages of condolence also came from former players and administrators.
Sheasham FC released a statement expressing deep sadness. The club described Bushiri as a dedicated professional and a committed teammate. His contribution to the club was praised.
Zimbabwean football has lost a hardworking servant of the game. Frankson “Warrior” Bushiri will be remembered for his commitment, strength, and passion for football.
