Court postponement turns into mass EFF rally ahead of elections

A court hearing involving the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) turned into a large political rally, drawing thousands of supporters dressed in the party’s red regalia.

They postponed to 15 and 16 April 2026, a decision that effectively extended the EFF’s public mobilisation ahead of the upcoming elections.

Supporters began gathering early near the court precinct. Songs, chants and placards filled the area. Party members and leaders addressed the crowd outside the courtroom. The atmosphere resembled a full-scale political rally rather than a legal proceeding.

The case relates to a politically charged allegation that has kept the EFF in the national spotlight. While proceedings inside court were brief, activity outside intensified as supporters used the opportunity to show unity and strength.

EFF officials described the postponement as further proof that the matter is politically motivated. They accused the state of using the justice system to target opposition leaders ahead of the elections.

“This case has given us a free rally before the elections,”

one supporter said, as the crowd erupted in cheers.
The heavy turnout highlighted the party’s continued ability to mobilise large numbers. Red berets, T-shirts and flags dominated the scene. Security was tight, with police maintaining a visible presence throughout the day.

Law enforcement monitored the gathering and managed traffic disruptions in surrounding areas.
Political analysts say the postponement may benefit the EFF. They argue that repeated court appearances keep the party in the media while energising its support base.

“The EFF thrives on confrontation with state institutions,” said one analyst. “Every delay feeds into their narrative of persecution and resistance.”

The party has consistently framed the case as an attack on its leadership. It has also used court dates to reinforce its campaign message and connect directly with supporters.
The matter now set down for April 2026, EFF is expected to continue leveraging the case as part of its election strategy.

As supporters dispersed later in the day, chants of victory echoed through the streets. For many, the postponement was not a setback, but a political gain.

The next court appearance is expected to draw similar crowds, as the election season intensifies.
