Malema interview on Radio 702 postponed due to Paul O’Sullivan’s Parliament appearance

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has announced the postponement of an interview between its leader Julius Malema and Radio 702. The interview was scheduled for Tuesday, 10 February 2026. It was meant to be hosted by Clement Manyathela.

According to the party, the change follows developments in Parliament. Paul O’Sullivan is expected to appear before the Ad Hoc Committee. The committee is investigating allegations made by Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. His appearance confirmed for the same day as the planned interview.

However, the EFF said the interview could not go ahead as planned because of Malema’s parliamentary commitments. The party stated that Malema will take part in the committee process instead. The interview will be rescheduled at a later date.

The EFF said O’Sullivan’s appearance came after pressure from the party. The pressure applied inside Parliament and in public spaces. The party claims the process has been delayed in the past. It also argues that false security concerns were raised.

Meanwhile, the party accused senior political figures of helping to delay O’Sullivan’s appearance. It named National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza and the ANC Parliamentary Caucus. The EFF said these actions created obstacles for the committee’s work.

The party added that the appearance of O’Sullivan is important for accountability. It believes the committee must hear his version of events directly. The EFF said the public deserves clarity on the allegations under investigation.

Therefore, Malema will join the committee’s work instead of attending the radio interview. He will be accompanied by EFF Deputy Secretary-General Leigh-Ann Mathys. Both leaders expected to take part in the cross-examination of O’Sullivan.

The party said the decision taken in the public interest. It believes Parliament must take priority over media engagements in this case. The EFF also said the interview with Radio 702 will be held once a new date is agreed.

Moreover, the EFF said the committee process should not be weakened by delays or excuses. It wants the inquiry to proceed without interference. The party also said all witnesses must cooperate fully.

The postponed interview expected to focus on national political issues. It also expected to address the committee inquiry. Radio 702 has not yet announced a new date for the interview.

Earlier, the Ad Hoc Committee formed to probe claims made by Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi. These claims raised concerns about governance and security matters. Several political parties have shown interest in the outcome of the inquiry.

Furthermore, the EFF said it will continue to push for transparency. It said Parliament must act without fear or favour. The party also said it will monitor how the committee handles the matter.

The EFF confirmed that it will inform the public once the interview is rescheduled. It said discussions with Radio 702 are ongoing.
As a result, Malema’s media appearance will wait. His focus will remain on the parliamentary process for now. The party said this move shows its commitment to accountability and oversight.

The committee is expected to sit on Tuesday as planned. O’Sullivan’s testimony is likely to attract strong public interest. Political reactions also expected once the session concludes.

Consequently, the postponement highlights the impact of parliamentary duties on political schedules. It also shows how the inquiry has become a central issue in national politics. The EFF said it will continue to play an active role in the process.
