The Presidency has confirmed that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu is not implicated in the interim report of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Presidency said the commission’s preliminary findings do not link Mchunu to any wrongdoing. It said the report does not name him as a subject of adverse findings.
The clarification comes after public speculation about the scope of the commission’s work and the officials who may be affected by its findings.
The Madlanga Commission was established to investigate allegations of misconduct and governance failures within certain state institutions. It is still gathering evidence and hearing testimony from witnesses.
According to the Presidency, the interim report mainly outlines the progress of the inquiry and the procedures followed so far. It does not make final conclusions about individuals.
The Presidency said Mchunu continues to perform his duties as Police Minister while the commission completes its work. It added that the inquiry remains independent and must be allowed to finish its mandate without interference.
“The interim report does not implicate the Minister of Police in any matter under investigation,” the Presidency said.
It also urged the public and media to avoid speculation and misinterpretation of the report. The Presidency said only the final report will contain firm findings and recommendations.
The commission is expected to submit its final report once it completes its investigations. The Presidency said it will make the report public after receiving and considering it.
